and likeness of God, and it is specifically, as male and female, that we image him. A man, in his very body, gives himself to a woman, and she, in her very body, receives him and gives herself back to him. As Dr. Scott Hahn has often said, their love is so real that “nine months later they have to give it a name.” The marital act has a symbolic, transcendent meaning; it is an exchange of persons and therefore a communion of persons, an icon of the inner life of the Trinity.
